Let Us Respect The Lord!

No, the above picture is not from a secular performance. It is from a gospel concert that was headlined by Esther Wahome sometime back in Stockholm, Sweden. Well, the situation is not much different here in Kenya. My jaw has dropped many a Sunday at the sight of pastors and their congregations dressed up as if they are off to the night club. People pay more attention - and respect - to their appearance when they are expecting their in-laws or going to their regular 8 to 5 than they do when they are in the Lord's presence.

I wouldn't exactly fault the younger generation who get their cues from the skimpily dressed  'gospel' singers such as Mary Mary and Trinitee 5:7. They also probably want to be in sync with the music and general party atmosphere that is in most churches today with service being one continous 'groovy' mix-tape.

The church has, sadly, resorted to mimicking the world instead of being "imitators of Christ." Our Lord Jesus Christ wants you to come to Him as you are. But you are definitely not to carry on as you did before you knew of His saving grace - in terms of dress, language, and mannerisms. God does look at the intentions of one's heart and doesn't judge as man does but aren't we taking it too far ?
